In 2011, the Kern County Board of Supervisors drew up a redistricting plan that was struck down in a recent decision. According to U.S. District Judge Dale Drozd, it was not “equally open to participation by Latino voters,” as mandated by the Voting Rights Act.
We are concerned that the board will fail to act quickly on this judgment, in an effort to delay implementation until 2020. We need the community to come out strong at tomorrow’s board meeting to voice support for immediate implementation.
