3rd Parent Student Convention 4/5/14
When: Saturday, April 5, 2014, 2pm to 4pm
Where: Myrtle Elementary School, 10421 Myrtle Ave., Lamont, CA
Why: LCFF changes the way our schools are funded. In its simplest form, as explained by the governor in his State of the State Speech, “Those with less are going to receive more and that is good for all of us.” But that’s where the simplicity ends. Districts need to ensure that this reallocation of funds helps three key groups of students: children in foster care, English learners and economically disadvantaged youth.
The Dolores Huerta Foundation will provide resources, such as a Student and Parent Rights Handbook in English and Spanish. A survey will be given to the parents during the event that will ask key questions about the educational challenges of raising a child in Kern County. The event will also feature free food, entertainment for the children, music, a raffle and prizes.
