On Monday, July 3rd, Executive Director, Camila Chavez, took time out of her busy schedule to promote literacy and educate community youngsters about civil rights heroes through “Lado a Lado, Side by Side: The Story of Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez” by Monica Brown. The book promotes and highlights the importance of community organizing as part of a strong democracy. Camila read to a group of students from LightWave Education Freedom School in Bakersfield. LightWave Education focuses on enhancing the quality of life through holistic programs that impact positive change in these children and their communities. Both DHF and LightWave education share this characteristic of empowering individuals and creating positive leaders of them through educating our youth about their potential and their capabilities.
