The Organization
The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to inspire and organize communities to build volunteer organizations empowered to pursue social justice. DHF is based in Bakersfield, California. We organize in the counties of Tulare, Fresno, Kern, and the high desert area of Los Angeles County. We are seeking Student Success Mentors who are passionate about supporting this work.

Job Summary
The Youth Program Manager will assist the Director with day to day planning, coordination and accountability of Youth Organizers.

Lead Responsibilities

  • Provide team supervision, support, training and performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Train and supervise staff to align with organizational culture, mission, and values.
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, & directing the work.
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Support with the implementation of operational and strategic planning; integrate programming with other DHF departments
  • Implement strategic collaborations and partnerships with external organizations and agencies.
  • Monitor contract and grant requirements including objectives and performance measures.
  • Oversee the recruitment and retention of youth participants.
  • Work with the Department Director to report weekly, monthly and annually of the work being done in the Youth Department.

      Job Summary
      Team Leaders will work with the Dolores Huerta Foundation to coordinate and manage phone banking and door-to-door canvassing teams in efforts to educate voters on how corporations avoid paying taxes that will invest in our communities and to influence voters to become members of We Are California.

      • Participate in a Mandatory Orientation and training September 18-20, 2023, in Los Angeles.

          Position Summary
          The Community Organizer & Trainer will engage community residents and establish a grassroots base of trained volunteers to engage in advocacy efforts to improve the education, health, and civic engagement outcomes for residents. This position has no supervisorial responsibilities.
          The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Development Director, and will work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director as well as board members and other external stakeholders.

          Position Responsibilities

          • Engage volunteer residents in non-partisan voter registration, education, Get Out The Vote (GOTV), and other outreach/mobilization programs.
          • Lead Power Analysis and Campaign Development to address issues affecting underrepresented communities.
          • Establish a media and communications plan to publicize projects and solicit community support.
          • Provide weekly and monthly written management reports to document activities, updates, and results via conference calls and timely updates; Update contacts on the DHF database on a weekly basis.
          • Participate in weekly staff calls, monthly staff meetings, and monthly Kern Education Justice Collaborative meetings.

            Position Summary
            The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of a variety of events. This role will plan, design, organize, and execute special events. This position will be expected to manage 15- 20 events annually and provide detailed reports on each project.
            The ideal candidate will have excellent administrative and organizational skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to use Google Suite
            Position Responsibilities
            Donor Relations Management
            – Plans and directs special events. Acts as event liaison between the organization and vendors. Develops concepts, designs and working with the Communications Department, coordinates mailings of promotional materials and invitations and directs logistical planning. Maintains records on event activities, progress, status and post event summary.
            – Attends events to oversee activities and ensure details are handled as planned. Addresses any issues that may arise and will remain on site after the event is over to ensure proper clean up. Works with and gives guidance to volunteers and staff involved in event planning and execution.
            – Negotiates and contracts with vendors for a variety of goods and services related to special events planning. Monitors delivery of goods and services to ensure contract terms are satisfied.
            – Maintains event supply inventory and ensures packing lists are accurate and available for event days
            – Develops and maintains an extensive network of contacts, both internal and external, to facilitate event coordination. 
            – Work with Development Director and Communications team to develop and annual report

            Position Summary
            The Major Gifts Officer will play a critical role in increasing donor support and acts as an ambassador for the Dolores Huerta Foundation across the community. You’ll be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing donors, as well as identifying new prospective donors. An ability to clearly communicate our organization’s mission is key.
            The Major Gifts Officer reports to the Development Director, and will work closely and collaboratively with the Executive Director as well as board members and other external stakeholders.

            Position Responsibilities

            Donor Relations Management

            • Secure major gifts of $10,000 and higher.
            • Collaborate with the development team to reach the goal of raising $600,000 annually.
            • Maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects.
            • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects.
            • Create and implement moves management plans for donors.
            • Research and develop prospective strategies to secure new supporters and donors
            • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations
            • Support the fundraising efforts of the Development Director and Executive Director in securing new and renewed gifts
            • Project manage end-of-year appeals ensuring deadlines and fundraising goals are met.
            • With the Development Director, create and manage organizational budget
            • Track and report progress to goal on a monthly basis including contracts, gifts, and pledges
            • Ensure timely and accurate acknowledgement of gifts, donations, and sponsorships and thanks donors accordingly
            • Work with Development Director and Communications team to develop and annual report

            Events

            • Work with Development Director on securing sponsorships and individual donations for fundraising events
            • Work with the team to strategize and help execute cultivation events for major donors and prospects.
            • Support coordination of special events, such as major donor cultivation events and fundraiser

            Additional Functions

            • Provide analysis and recommendations based on reporting.
            • Provide detailed prospect reports for solicitors.
            • Provide regular update reports on moves management plans
            • Other duties as assigned.

            EDUCATION/EDUCATION

            REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

            • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 3-5 years (direct or equivalent) experience managing high level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $10,000 and above.
            • Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a major gifts program, including: annual giving, special events, and special projects/campaigns.
            • Excellent grasp of database software.
              Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy and professionalism.
            • High level proficiency of Google Suite and a working knowledge of search functions for donor research purposes.
            • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a culturally diverse group of volunteers, co-workers and donors.

            Campaign Summary

            The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) and the UC Merced Community & Labor Center have launched a partnership striving to improve the lives of working families in the Central Valley. Together, we are conducting a community needs assessment (CNA) survey to find out the top issues affecting the workplace, community, and the environment. The information collected from the surveys will be used to advocate for improved investments in education, employment, health, and environment in the region. DHF is seeking Canvassers/Surveyors in Tulare County and Kern County. The person in this role will be trained as an Internal Review Board (IRB) Certified Surveyor and will conduct door to door surveys with a team.

            Canvasser/Surveyor Responsibilities

            • Participate in a week-long training and become a (IRB) Certified Surveyor.
            • Recruit survey participants through door to door outreach in underrepresented communities.
            • Conduct a minimum of 4-5 surveys per day.
            • Meet daily and weekly campaign goals.
            • Work with DHF volunteers to support participant recruitment. (Vecinos may accompany canvassers/surveyors in their respective neighborhoods to identify survey participants.)
            • Collect contact information from community members who want to join DHF’s network.
            • Provide detailed daily reports.
            • Represent DHF in a professional and respectful manner.

            EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

            Qualifications

            • Previous campaign or surveyor experience a plus
            • Self-motivated and detailed-oriented
            • Strong communication and listening skills
            • Punctual, reliable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
            • Bilingual English/Spanish, required
            • Bilingual English/Punjabi, English/Hmong, English/Tagalog, a plus

            Position Summary
            The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the Dolores Huerta Foundation. Working closely with the finance team and the Executive Director, the Director of Finance develops both short and long-term financial plans. Manage all phases of grants and contracts administration including, awards administration, budget creation maintenance, monitoring and reporting. The Director of Finance will maintain relationships with designated external funding managers and program officers. Helps compile financial and non-financial data for the preparation of internal reports, compliance reports, and grant billings/reports.

            Director of Finance reports to the Executive Director and provides administrative support to the Finance Team, Board of Directors, specifically the Budget and Finance Committee and the Investment Committee in an ex officio capacity. The Director of Finance is also responsible for maintaining all appropriate licensing and insurances and protects the organization’s assets by overseeing the current inventory of DHF’s fixed assets.

            Position Responsibilities

            Financial Administration:
            – Administer contracts, subcontracts and grants.
            – Ensure all designated fiscal reports are prepared and submitted in accordance with contract or grant requirements.
            – Verify general ledger detail accurately reflects program activity and submit accurate invoices to ensure timely payments.
            – Responsible for ensuring that payments to sub-recipients and vendors comply with grant/contract requirements.
            – Act as DHF’s liaison with designated funders on financial matters.
            – Provide financial reports to present to the DHF Board of Directors on a quarterly basis.
            – Determine the capacity needs of the finance team, including which workstreams should be handled in-house and which, if any, should be outsourced

            Budgeting:
            – Collaborate with cross-functional teams developing proposals to ensure budgets are realistic, and narratives are in line with the budget.  Establish budget requirements, ensure DHF’s budgeting standards are met, and determine how to monitor and report use of funds to the awarding agency.
            – Develop relationships internally and externally to foster understanding and effective
            communication of DHF’s programs and their relevance to the outcomes in the strategic plan.
            – Attend regular meetings with finance and program staff to ensure compliance by reviewing spending against contracts and grants, complete budget updates, and schedule invoicing.

            Accounting Functions:
            – Improving and developing financial policies, procedures and processes
            – Appropriate delegation of roles and responsibilities of the finance team.
            – Responsible for oversight of AR/AP, purchasing, accounting, cash management and sound business practices in general.
            – Responsible for oversight of document retention and retrieval of AR/AP, payroll, and grants for audits in accordance with best practices.
            – Act as primary contact with external auditors and accountants to complete annual audits and tax filings. Review final submission to auditors.
            – Manage and coordinate with DHF finance team and staff to delegate audit requests as appropriate.
            – Manage the tracking and accounting for fixed assets and other real and personal property.
            – Assist with annual insurance renewals and liaison with insurance brokers to approve insurance provisions of contracts and obtain Certificate of Insurances.
            – Manage renewal of organizational liability insurance policies to mitigate financial risk
            – Manage relationships with external finance partners, including banks, auditors, organizational insurers, and other financial service providers

            Qualifications
            The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experiences:
            – This position requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; and 5 years of experience in nonprofit contract/grant administration experience including successfully managing complex grants and contracts from conception to conclusion.
            – Strong knowledge of state and federal audit requirements, such as Federal OMB CFR-200 requirements.
            – Knowledge of GAAP Accounting practices and procedures
            – Knowledge of various government agencies and systems and how to effectively navigate these  systems for proposal submission and payment processing.
            – Knowledge of Quickbooks, ADP, and other grants, accounting software a plus.
            – Experience working with federal grants or cooperative agreements.
            – Experience with creating fiscal budgets.
            – Demonstrated experience evaluating internal controls.
            – Experience in cost accounting and financial management systems.
            – Intermediate skill level user of Google Suites, Word, and PowerPoint.
            – Advanced Excel skills including formula writing, required.
            – Possess personal initiative and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse, multi-cultural team.
            – Superior analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise effective professional judgment.
            – Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.

            The Organization:  The Dolores Huerta Foundation will establish community-based (resource & referral) centers in Bakersfield, Sanger, Lamont, Tulare, California City, and Antelope Valley in order to provide low-cost services and referrals to Vecinos Unidos, yout,h and community members. The service centers will uphold DHF’s values in the promotion of economic security, legal and civil rights, and self-empowerment. DHF will implement a plan to train and develop volunteers to process services and referral requests. The Service Centers will function as a community aid center for their respective communities in alignment with DHF’s Vecinos Unidos membership program
            Position Summary 
            While volunteering is not a paid role with the Dolores Huerta Foundation, volunteers are very similar to employees and are valued just the same!
            In this role, Volunteers will join Community Organizers to coordinate and service Resource Centers. Volunteers will be trained to identify community members via intake forms that are being challenged to provide essential food and needs to their selves and their family.

            outlets while supporting the goals and values of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.

            Position Responsibilities

            • Write and distribute media advisories and press releases.
            • Cultivate and maintain relationships with press outlets and reporters
            • Field calls from/to journalists; pitch stories and interviews supporting the organization’s goals and values.
            • Create effective and organized press/media advisory kits coordinate press conferences.
            • Regularly update the DHF press list, Build press contact info, and maintain the database.
            • Track, report, and promote high-profile DHF press and media coverage (links, photos, videos, press clippings, screen grabs).

            • Develop, execute, and track public relations strategy.

            EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

            • Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, communications or a relevant field.
            • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as
              appropriate
            • Proven experience as a communications specialist or in a related field.
            • Use digital illustration, photo editing software, and layout software to create designs, visual elements such as logos
