The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) is a growing 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to create a network of organized communities pursuing social justice through systemic and structural transformation. Our civic engagement and advocacy efforts reflect our strategic priority areas which are Health, Environment, Education, and Youth Development.

DHF is based in Bakersfield, California. We are seeking interns passionate to work with and on behalf of DHF’s Vecinos Unidos members in Kern (Lamont, Arvin, and Weedpatch) and Tulare (Woodlake, Lindsay, and Cutler-Orosi) counties.

Current internship opportunities include: 

Civic Engagement:

Training community members on civic participation/advocacy; in June 2011, DHF will oversee a non-partisan voter engagement project to register and educate voters.

Health & Environment:

  • Launching community garden in Lamont
  • Domestic violence prevention education
  • Teen pregnancy prevention with adults and teens
  • Education on obesity prevention
  • Environmental trainings

Education & Youth Development:

  • Coordination of camping trips
  • Sex education and outreach
  • Community art projects
  • Parent involvement in schools

Research:

  • Environment
  • Education
  • Health

Fundraising:

  • Develop marketing materials
  • Assist with fundraisers
  • Track and prepare merchandise orders
