Board Member
Rev. Deacon Sal Alvarez, M.S.W, is the Director of the Institute for Non-Violence, Office of Human Relations, Santa Clara County—a community organization providing training from the perspectives of Ghandi, King, Chavez, Dolores Huerta, Msgr. Romero, and Mother Teresa on peace building, conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiations for civil rights and human rights advocates.
Alicia A. Arong
Treasurer
Alicia was born and raised in Stockton, California. She attended local schools and was involved in the arts and culture of her community at an early age. Ms. Arong continues to be involved at many levels in local and state activities.
Angela Cabrera, R.N.
Board Member
Angela began her nursing career in 1995 at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, California. The experience she gained at this county facility was both exciting and troubling. Recognizing a lack of bilingual nurses, Angela saw more clearly than ever the need for the work and education of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.
Barbara Carrasco

Barbara Carrasco is an artist and muralist. Her works have been exhibited throughout the U.S., Europe, and Latin America and her work has been featured in numerous publications: Ms. Magazine (2008), Los Angeles Times, New York Times; USA Today; Artforum; Boston Globe; new England Journal; High performance, and Flash Art.
Federico Chavez

Federico “Freddy” Chavez was raised in Delano, California, where as a youngster he was introduced to labor organizing and social activism by his uncle, Cesar E. Chavez, his father, Richard Chavez, and other initial founders of the UFW. Helping to distribute leaflets throughout the Central San Joaquin Valley during the earliest days of the farm workers’ movement and coming into direct contact with the extreme poverty of farm workers, forged Federico’s lifelong commitment to fight for economic as well as social justice.

Juanita Chavez-Thomas
Board Member
Juanita Chávez-Thomas is an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles. She has taught in inner-city public schools for over a decade.
John X. Fernandez, Jr.
Board Member
Prior to establishing Hawley Morton Productions, Inc. in 1995 John X. Fernandez, Jr. provided more than ten years of technical and management expertise to The Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall.
Jamila Guerrero-Cantor, MA, NCC
Board Member
Jamila Guerrero-Cantor, MA, NCC was raised in Los Angeles, CA where she currently works as a School Counselor for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at Marlton School and Cerritos College. She became a young activist at Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden’s political/performing arts camp Laurel Springs in Santa Barbara, CA.

Helen Hernandez is the President and Founder of The Imagen Foundation and Executive Producer of the Imagen Awards. Under her leadership, the Imagen Awards have become one of the most prestigious awards in the entertainment industry and have often been referred to as the “Latino Golden Globes”.
